	The Child Development Careers-WORKs! program is designed to recruit California Community College students who are current or former cash aid recipients, and who wish to pursue a career in the field of Early Childhood Education (ECE). The objective is to increase the number of qualified child development teachers and to assist current and former TANF recipients and their families in becoming economically self-sufficient. During 2004-05 program year, 49 of the 96 eligible California Community Colleges were funded through the CDC-WORKs! (formerly TANF-CDC) program for the purposes of providing additional coordination, case management, support services, mentoring, and teacher permit processing services to over 1,000 program participants. Currently, 61 California Community College campuses participate in the CDC-WORKs program.

2010-2011 Ed Connolly Outstanding Achievement Scholarship - Monday, March 14, 2011

Youth & Adult Services is proud announce the 2010-2011 Ed Connolly Outstanding Achievement Scholarship opportunity. Please see below for guidelines and general instructions. Click on "read more" to access the Scholarship Application.

General Information:

· The Outstanding Achievement Scholarship Award is named after Ed Connolly, who dedicated his career to the California Community College System for more than 30 years. Mr. Connolly made great contributions to the field by helping to create, develop and administer supportive service programs for students.

· The Foundation will award one scholarship ($500) to a participant from CDC-WORKS.

· The campus Program Facilitator will nominate one participant from their program and assist the applicant with completing the application process.

Applicant Eligibility Requirements:

· Applicants must be currently enrolled or have successfully completed the CDC-WORKs program during the 10-11 Program Year (July 1, 2010 to present).

· Applicants must have a minimum of 2.0 GPA. An unofficial copy of transcripts must be attached to the application.

· The application must be received by the Foundation no later than April 1, 2011. Scholarship Awards will be announced on May 2, 2011.

Scholarship Application Instructions:

· The application is to be completed by the applicant with the exception of the Nominator Information (pg. 2) and the Recommendation Letter (pg.5) which is completed by the Program Coordinator.

· Application Packets (application, unofficial copy of transcripts & recommendation letter) must be received via mail or email by the Foundation no later than April 1, 2011.

	How We Help

	The CDC-WORKs! program recruits and trains California Community College students who are current or former cash aid recipients and are interested in pursuing careers in the professional field of child development and early childhood education. The CDC-WORKs! program provides educational support in order to place them on the career ladder based on the California Child Development Permit Matrix. In addition to tuition reimbursement and job placement assistance, the program offers a range of support services and resources to students. Participants have access to book and transportation grants, tutors, mentors, workshops, and on-campus support groups. A campus program coordinator works closely with participants throughout the duration of the program, supporting their academic achievement and subsequent job placement in the field of Early Childhood Education (ECE). The Foundation seeks to eventually recruit and contract with all California Community Colleges that offer early childhood education programs. Learn more >
